On Becoming Pregnant

"To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited. Soul and spirit are stretched – along with body – making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.” — Anne Christian Buchanan

From a Pea to a Pumpkin, A Prenatal Psychotherapy Group, is designed to meet the emotional and psychological needs of each participant. In our first meeting we will talk about becoming pregnant. Each woman’s story holds significant weight and meaning and will remain a part of her and her unborn baby’s psychic life. How a woman considers and reflects on how she became pregnant suggests how she will unconsciously and consciously navigate her pregnancy. Embarking on these 10 weeks together we establish a therapeutic frame wherein each woman is invited to talk about her journey to become pregnant. Some women become pregnant naturally, others utilize fertility treatments, while some pregnancies are planned, others are unplanned, and this group places value on the psychological meaning of the information for each woman and how it fits into her life.
