This fall I am offering a 10 week intensive psychotherapy group program for those individuals seeking a comprehensive approach to treatment and understanding of their eating disorder symptoms and patterns. Week five, Living in The Material World, we address how the conscious and unconscious pressures of our personal environments impact body image and identity. The basic message we tend to believe is that body image develops from the outside and travels inward. Although this is somewhat true, we all compare ourselves to others, and in a world where images are flashed in front of our eyes at a rapid pace, there is still an importance to know that body image begins developing at birth and our early relationships and attachment have much to do with the course our body ego takes. In this group we will process and talk about the relationship between the inside world and the outside world and how these dynamics exacerbate and feed eating disorder symptoms and body image development. This group will provide a broader base for comprehending and managing outside impacts and strengthening the inner emotional core.
